Well Embroidered was founded by artist and hand embroidery expert, Sara Rickards. As a detail focused creative, Sara works with individuals and businesses to create bespoke hand embroidered pieces as well as sharing her expansive embroidery knowledge with her students so they too, can create incredible one off designs.

Sara has spent over 16 years in the industry: her projects have been featured in Stitch magazine, she’s created bespoke pieces for fashion and bridal designers alike, conserved ecclesiastical embroidery and regularly teaches classes for the world renowned experts, the Royal School of Needlework where she trained as an apprentice.

Sara is passionate about inspiring her students to create exquisite embroidery and creates bespoke embroidery kits, runs online courses and teaches sell-out classes around the world. She has a talent for clearly explaining the method behind working an embroidery stitch, whilst anticipating potential problems students may have and correcting them before too much unpicking is needed.

About

Inspire and Create

I’m Sara Rickards, founder of Well Embroidered and I’m on a mission to educate and inspire students to create their own exquisite embroidery. I’ve spent over 20 years working in this industry and I’m passionate about beautiful embroidery design and the therapeutic effects it can have on the body and mind. Over the years I have seen these benefits first hand. Students taking just a few hours out of their day for themselves where they can connect with creativity and escape their worries, leaving them with a feeling of purpose and a sense of accomplishment when they have finished their design and learnt a new technique. Every embroidery design I create and stitch for my clients is carefully planned and considered, from the choice of colours down to the combination of stitches, every detail is important and accuracy within my stitching is crucial. Well Embroidered is here to help you unlock your embroidery potential, whether that’s commissioning an embroidery project or if you are a student, through embroidery kits, classes and online courses. I firmly believe that everyone can own and create beautiful embroidery and I am excited to help you unlock and realise your potential.

A few of my favourite things...

Flowers

I can’t imagine a world without flowers, their smell, vibrancy and delicacy are a delight to the senses and much of my inspiration comes from them and the natural world. I am at my happiest spending time pottering about in the garden. It is a time for me to connect to nature, absorb all the beauty and practice some mindfulness.

Education

Personal development and creative expansion is very important to me and I am often researching new ideas and learning from a varied pile of sources. I love sharing that knowledge too and being able to take someone that has never stitched, through to creating their first piece is incredibly satisfying. I love to share all my secret hints and tips so you can achieve the best results possible and take your embroidery to the next level.

Travel

Travelling feeds my soul and ignites my creativity. It’s a time for me to slow down, recharge my batteries and create some space so that I can continue to come up with new embroidery designs. Spending time in a new destination transforms my vision, lifts my spirits and allows me to cut out the noise and focus on what matters.

Style & Intricate Details

I am a firm believer that the small details matter and this can so easily be overlooked. It is this attention to detail that elevates my designs and ensures all my work is finished to a high standard. Aesthetics are important to me and I take great delight in making things look beautiful.

Tea

I love a good cup of tea and it is a vital part of everyday. If a project is not going quite as you would like or a stitch not looking perfect, then the best thing to do is step away and have a cup of tea. You can guarantee when you return, whatever the problem, it will be easier to solve after a cup of tea.
